Jason Langley

(Director, Dramaturg, Actor, Teacher, Mentor)

Having been a performer, Jacqui has an innate ability to assess and understand what an actor requires to build a strong performance and a direct, yet beautifully nurturing way of guiding them there. A skilled vocal coach, performance coach, musician and mentor, she has a great deal to offer a rehearsal process. Jacqui observed one of my rehearsal rooms and discreetly noted moments that could be strengthened and, with my blessing, quietly and swiftly addressed them. Her impact on the show was immeasurable. Whether in front of or behind the footlights, Jacqui Cuny is an invaluable asset to the theatre industry.

Jacqui has an incisive mind and a great gift of communication which is informed and influenced by her extensive professional experience as a performer.

Her curiosity and commitment to theatre and performance make for conversations of great insight and understanding. In talking with her about the discipline and importance of what we in this mad industry do and achieve, I learnt more about myself as a performer and about the art form itself. Her passion is inspiring, as is her intellect.

Jacqui Cuny has cleverly curated and nuanced performance techniques like no other. Through her experienced career and years of teaching she has perfected how to harness the X factor that we all possess. Working with mind, body, and voice, she has taught me processes and techniques that have helped me to be flexible in audition rooms and playful in front of two thousand seated audiences. Harnessing the voice within us is Cuny’s specialty and passion. Breaking down the character’s intention and the situation is done effortlessly and safely with Jacqui’s mentorship and guidance. I have had the honour of working with her for multiple years now and cannot recommend her teachings enough. Jacqui Cuny’s knowledge, wisdom and love for expanding the potential of any artist is what makes her an incredible mentor.

I have had the great pleasure to work closely with Jacqui Cuny for the past 8 years. As mentor, teacher, and colleague I have been able to observe Jacqui’s lifelong passion for musical theatre performance alongside her unique and innovative ideas for teaching. Anyone who knows Jacqui will not be surprised to know that she has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and has proven her abilities as a researcher completing a Masters of Vocal Pedagogy with Distinction, and a PhD in Musical Theatre performance synergy.

Driven by her great love of all aspects of theatre and stage performance, Jacqui tailors her teaching approach, as needed, to suit performers of all levels of ability drawing on her deep well of knowledge and expertise. She has developed a coaching style that is dynamic, intuitive, warm and encouraging incorporating techniques derived from both her personal experience and her research of musical theatre, contemporary singing, acting and stage craft.

What wonderful gifts to share with her students!
